How we track 2027 plan changes
Every number on this site comes from public files the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) publishes. Here is what we use and how we read it.
Our sources
- Medicare Advantage landscape files for 2026 and 2027: every plan offered in every county, with premiums and plan types.
- Monthly enrollment by contract, plan, state and county (September 2026): how many members are in each plan in each county.
- The CMS plan crosswalk for 2027, once CMS publishes it: which 2026 plans continue, merge, shrink or end.
- The Census Bureau ZIP code to county file, so you can check your plan by ZIP code.
CMS posts these on its Medicare Advantage contract and enrollment data pages, including the plan crosswalks.
How we decide a plan is changing
For each 2026 plan we read every crosswalk row together, because one plan can be split across several 2027 plans. A county counts as lost only if none of the plan's 2027 successor plans serve it.
A plan CMS marks as terminated or non-renewed is a termination in every county it loses. Any other plan that loses a county is a service area reduction there. Plans whose members move to a successor plan in the same county are not listed, because those members are moved automatically.
Member counts
Member counts are September 2026 enrollment for the affected plan in that county. CMS hides counts of 10 or fewer to protect privacy, so our totals are minimums. We only ask search engines to list county pages with at least 25 affected members.
Plans still offered
"Plans available" lists come from the 2027 landscape file. We leave out employer and union group plans and plans only for residents of nursing facilities, because most people can't join them. Premiums are the monthly plan premium (Part C plus Part D) and don't include your Part B premium. CMS publishes 2027 star ratings in October; until then we sort by lowest premium.
Always confirm with your plan
Your plan's Annual Notice of Change or non-renewal letter is the final word for your coverage. If anything here doesn't match your letter, call us and a licensed agent will check it with you at no cost.
